LADY LUKE

WELL,iiN (jtTUJN, Tnis Uay. The death occurfed ebrly yesterday morning of Lady Jacobina Lulce, C.B.E., at the age of 76 years, at the home of her daughter, Mrs E. H. Charlesworth, Lower Hutt. She had been in poor health for several months attd had been forced to tesign recently from mhny of the organisations witli which she was connected. Lady Luke, mayoress of Wellington from 1913 to 1921, was a well-ltnown flgure in the city, where she had been for many years prominOnt in social welfare work of all kinds. She was born in Sonth Hetton, Durham, Eugland, in 1860.. Sir John Luke died in 1931, and the efflest son, Mr J. Pearce Luke, died in England two years ago. Ijady Luke is survived by oue sister, Mrs C. H. Aiken, Wellington, and a brother, Mr H. McGregor, inspector of machinery at Auckland. Of her own family are Mrs Charlesworth, of Lower Hutt, Mr H. A. Luke, of Wanganui, Mr George Luke and Mr P. W. Luke, Wellington. There are 13 grandchildren.
