TE HAUKE MAORIS FAREWELL TO MISSION SUPERINTENDENT
The mission room at Te Hauke was the Bcene of a large gathering of the Maoris of Te Hauke, Opapa and Poukawa on Friday night when they met to wish the Superintendent God speed and all sueeess when she takes up her work at Tokomaru Bay next month. Miss Aplin has been at Te Hauke Mission House during the paat 18 years and the love the people bear her was clearly shown during the evening. After an address in Maori and English, Mr P. Tama, on behalf of those present, presented Miss Aplin with a handsome clock and a prayer book. Mrs Ellison gave also as a personal token of love a greenstone tiki. Miss Aplin thanked the donors, telling them she did not need gifts to remind her of her people; she carried them in her heart. The rest of the evening was spent in dancing, speeches and songs of farewoll. A delightful supper wais served by the ladies.
