EVENING AT ONGAONGA FOR EASTER BRIDE
On Friday evening Miss G. Guilliard was the guest of honour at a most enjoyable musical evening interspersed with competitions, which was held at the country xesidence of Mr and Mrs Gerald Wilson, Ongaonga. Miss Guilliard, who had been secretary of ^ the Hawke's Bafy branch of the Britidh Music Society since its inception, relinquished her position th'e the annual meeting owing to her approaching marriage. The spaeious drawing-room, with its softly-tinted cream walls set off witb big bowls of scarlet pom-pom dahlias, the folding glass doors leading to the sun-porch screened with long green curtains, made an artistic setting for the mueh-enjoyed musical programme, items being rendered by the following members of the society: Songs, Mesdames P. A. Riddle, R. Rathbone, J. L. Braithwaite, Messrs E. G. Collin and N. Tilley; pianoforte solos, Mrs Gerald Wilson and Miss Airini Hutt; musical monologue, Mr F. Y. Ward. The accompaniments were played by Mesdames Gerald Wilson, F. V. Ward and Miss Kitty Riddle. A novel competition was won by Mrs V. A. Riddle and Mr Collin and a memory contest by Mrs F. V. Ward. During the evening, in making a presentation on behalf of the branch, Mr® Wilson spoke in appreciation of what Miss Guilliard had done as secretary during the initial stages and the first year's activity. Members were sorry to lose her from the society, but wished her and her future husband every happiness. Mr MeBride suitably replied on behalf of his fiancee. After a delectable supper Had been served, Mr Ward, on behalf of those present, thanked the host and hostess for a very delightful evening. Mrs Wilson welcomed the guests wearing a smart model gown fashioned in bluei-green French ©rinkled crepe figured in black, the matching tailored coat having elbow length sleeves closely shirred at the elbow. She was assisted by her mother, Mrs R. Park, Otorohanga, who was gowned in burgundy lace and georgette, with a diamante clasp at the waistline. Miss Guilliard chose a smartly fashioned froek in black ehiffon welvet, relieved with a pretty shoulder spray. Others present were: Mr and Mrs F. V. Ward, Mr and Mrs N. Tilley, Mr and Mrs J. L. .Braithwaite, Mr and Mrs H. S. Cottrell, Mr and Mrs E. G. Collin, Mesdames P. A. Riddle, P. C. Anderson, A. Rathbone, H. E. Coats, W. J. Gray, F. J. Dunbar, J. H. Walker, T. Turner, E. G. Dowriek, R. M. Scott, H. Tennent, E. T. Haldane, Misses Kitty Riddle, Norma Wharmby, A. Hutt, Vera Witherow, Mazie Robertson, Messrs C. Moir, MeBride. The singing of Anld Lang Syne brcught a very enjoyable evening to a close.
