Enjoyable Visit to Wairoa.

WAIROA, This day. There was a large gathering of bowlers on the Wairoa Bowling Club's green on Saturday afternoon. The morning was cloudy and rain fell as the South Auckland bowlers journeyed from Gisborne to "Wairoa, so ihuch so that at one time turning back was contemplated. However, the party came on and after lunch assembled at the Wairoa greens, and misty rain fell at times, with bursts of sunshine, but the rain was not sufficient to stop play. The greens were in very good order both for the bowlers and the ladies on the croquft greens. Prior to the start, Mr. J. S. Wilson, president of the Wairoa Ulubfl extended a welcoine to the visitors, expressing a hope that they would have a pleasant afternoon 's play. Wairoa Club had not the facilities "that other clubs had for entertaining visitors, but they would do their best. He was also pleased to see so many lacues present, and hoped they also would have a good time. They all regretted that the president of the South Auckland Centre and his wife had been unable to come owing to illness of a xnemher of the family, but they wero' glad to learn that the trouble was not serious. Mr. Maingay, vice-president, of Te Aroha, speaking for the visitors, thanked the speaker for his kindly welcome to the bowlers and the ladies. JTe had xiow the pleasast duty of presenting to the "Wairoa club the badge of the Centre, "Innocence and Beauty," for both of which he was sure the Wairoa club would quality. (Laughter.) In return, Mr. Wilson presented to South Auckland the club's badge and fThe Freedom of the City," at the same time thanking the East Coast Centre for having made the tour possible. The visitors won on the aggregate by 211 points to 176.
