BLENHEIM, Last Night. Whether or not there was excessive drinking by Public Works employees at Kaikoura he was not able personally to (say, said Mr- T. E. Maunsell, S.M., dhairman of the Wairau Licensing Committee, when interviewed at Nelson. | this afternoon by telephone on the re- ; marks of the Minister of Public Works | (Hon. E. Sernple), following a request • made by the Wairau Licensing Commit- | tee for a report from the police at Kaikoura. Mr. Maunsell said the information had been given him in a private conversation and might well prove to be unfounded; nevertheless the rumour existed, and he wished to know whether it was true or not. He was not concerned with whether there was drinking or otherwise at Public Works canips. All he wished to know was whether or not the liccnsees at Kaikoura were conforming to the law. That was his ob. ject in asking for a report from the police.
