THIS YEAR'S PLANS MADE AT TOWNSWOMEN'S GUILD ANNUAL MEETING
~ a New ideas botb for the entertainment and the education of • the members of the Hastings Towns women' s Guild wero brougbt forth. at the annual meeting, which was held in the Hastings Oddfellows' Hall yesterday afternoon with a splendid nnmber of old and new members present. Mrs G- A. Maddison. was in tlxe chair and also on the stage wero the president, IMrs A. F. Glenny, and the secretary, Mrs F. Deans, the meeting being opened witli the Natipual Anthem followed by the Guild Odo anl aspirations.. The beautiful floral decorations are a feature of all guild meetings and yesterday they were . particular ly admired. The colour scheme was in gold, Grange andbronze, and African marigolds. gaillardias, dahlias and nasturtiums wero arranged in large bowls with variegated leaves and maidenhair fern. The annual report, presented by the secretary , showed a very busy and sueoessful year, with loyal support and continued interest from the memoer3. Many splendid programmes have been presented at Guild meetings throughout tho year and many outside organisations have received their support while many kindnesses, such as posies fore the sick and Christmas presents for ■poor children, have been given by the Sunshine Circle of the Guild- Interesting speakers at Guild meetings ha.vo been greatly appreciated as also have been all who have contributed to the lighter side of the programmes. Mrs G. A. Maddison expressed thanks to the secretary for her clear and aecurate report. Letters were received from Miss Jerome Spencer, Q-B.E., thanking the Guild for their letter of congi'atu.ation, and also from the Mayor. Mr G. A. Maddison, who promised to give Lis consideration to the matter of elwiinating the practice of drinking at Janoes, which was discussed by a meeting of representatives of women's orgauisations. In addressing the members, the ptesident. Mrs Glenny, said that she could 6afely say that the Guild was justifying its existence, the circles havmg woiked harmoniously throughout the year and given valuable assistance at Guiid meetings. "I feel that more memberB should b© taking an activo part," said Mrs Glenny, "and those who do will ftud they have. added interest and enjoy tbe activities even more. A great deal of work Jies behind an organisation of this kind and every member must help." Mrs Glenny thanked hor committee and especially mentioned the very capable secretary, Mrs F. Deans, and the treasurer, Miss S- Wellwood, who had shepherded the pennies with such care siuce the inception of the Guild. The circle leaders were thanked, also the tea convenors, Mrs T. A. Hill and Mrs F. J . Hull. She thanked Mrs Maddison ior taking the chair and for her help and interest in all matters pertaining to the Guild. "The flowers have beeoi a apeciai feature of the meetings," said Mrs Glenny, "and ali members must realise that they give a welcome and create an atmosphere of friendliness which is greatly appreciated." In conclusion, the speaker expressed sympathy with all members bereavfd during the year and sent wishes for a tspeedy recovery of all sick members. A lovely deep red shoulder spray was presented to Miss Susan Wellwood, the treasurer, who leaves for England on Monday and this was accompanied by wishes for a happy holiday from ali the members. Mr A. O. A. Hyde was again appointed auditor and it was decided to send him a letter with sincere thanks for his work for the Guild. Messrs A. 0. A. Hyde. Strang and F. J. Hull acted as scruitinpers for tbe election of officers and tho results were : President, Mrs A. F. Glenny; ••icepresident, Mrs G. A. Maddison; secretary, Mrs F. Deans; committee, Miss H. Ford, Mrs Goldfincli, ' Mrs T. A. Hill, Mrs 0. P. Hopkins Mrs F. J. Hull, Mrs A. C. A. Hyde' Mrs G. Marsicano. Mrs J. B. Pickering, Miss Shaw, Mrs E. V. Simpson, Miss E. J. Strang and Mrs V. L. Wostorman. Mrs A. C. A. Hyde will take Miss Wellwood's place as treasurer during her absence in EngJand. Mrs C. P. Hopkins spoke of the Guild open eveniug cntertaiument ou April 1 and mentioned tho pavticularly delightl'ul programme which is being organised. It is liopcd to have a very large audtence as this is the Guild's iirsb cfl'ort to raise funds. Many ideas for the coming year wero discussed — th© formation of a eivic circle to take an interest in local affairs and governmcnlal matters and the formation of an entertainment committee to koop the funds in good order- Plans l'or the May meeting which will be a Coronation gathering were also discussed and many ideas ior a really delightful meeting wero put forward.
