ROTORUA, Last Night. After three days of "stay-in" tactics |a settlement of the industrial dispute !at the-Te J Whaiti timber mill was> ■ effeeted last evening and the men re-, itnrned to work this morning. ! In connection with the trouble Mr J.i jMcIvor, District Inspector of Factories,; '•of Hamilton, in company with Mr McDowell, South Auckland branch dele-' gate of the Timber Workers' UiAon, of Taumaranui, visited Te Whaiti yesterday and investigated the caus"es of the .dispute. i After a long discussion and an ad-' dress by Mr Mclvor to the men on the, legal position, a settlement was effeeted1 and work was xesumed this morning. It is understood that the men eventu-: ally Tealised their actions we/e illegalt and that company officials promised the ! (men that none of them would be victi-| mised because of their attitude to the i ' Btrike. j In an interview to-day Mr E. Curry,, a brother of the dismissed manager and Baw-doctor at the mill, said that he had ' urged the men to return to work underprotest but he himself had resigned his position. "The position at the mill is. jgtill very unsettled, ' and when the neW' j manager, Mr Hansen, and the yard boss, ithe man whom my brother as manager ;refused to reinstate, arrived at the n#il at 10 o'elock they were booed by> the timber workers and counted out. "The trouble i3 likely. to break out' again at any time in my opinion," added Mr Curry.
