FRUIT SHORTAGE

Report on H.B. Situation The shortage of fruit ia Hawke3# Bay is emphasised in the following report made to the Director of the Hoftioultural Division of th© Department of Agriculture regarding fruit crop prospeots at the end of February. All fruits are in very short supply owing to severe frost of last October. Stone fruit is partieularly scarce, also Sturmers and DeKcious. A light crop of Dougpiertys, produced from late bloom, will be harvested in a good many orchards. This applies to Statesman and Home Beauty, but these two varieties are not grown so extensively. Pears are scarce but, in some areas, Winter Cole are produoing a fair crop; out the district yield will be low. Tomato crop ripening very slowly, due to intermittent cold snape.
