Can Close the Road to Suez at Any Time MANOEUVRES PLANNEP (Received 9, 8.45 a.m.) ROMB, March 8. Immediately the Fascist Grand Council ends to-night, Signor Mussolini embarks on a cruise to . superintend massed fleet manoeuvres on the Lvbyan coast, the plan of which is not revealed, but it is significant that there is widespread discussion and that the claim is made that Italy is able to close the passages from Gibraltar to Suez at a momenf's notice, presumably via the Straits of Messina and the narrows between Sicily and Tnnisia. Italy's island base, Pamtellaria, is in the middle of the stretch of water between Sicily and Tunisia.
