WAIPUKURAU, March 6. That .the compulsory remov&l of old cars from the roads of New 25ealand would mean a tremendous hardshSp to working people was the opinion expressed by Or. P, F. Wall at the meeting of1 the Waipukurau County Council this morning. Cr. M. Tansey said that he did not; think it was the intention of the Gov-; ernment to put the cars off the road. Cr. H. T. Wright: The owners wiip either have to take the cars off the' road or face a big repair bill; how are: they going to do it? ; Cr. Wall: They can't do itl Shear-', ers, for instanee, will be placed in a most awkward position. Cr. Tansey expressed the opinion that the old cars were responsible for many accidents. "It's not the old cars that cause tho "accidents — it's the new ones, doing 60, 70, and 80 milcs an hour," declared Cr. Wall. " . "Of course, every car should have good brakes," he added, "but old cars are quite safe and there is no reason why they should have to go off the road. "The new legislation will mean no hardship to people who can alford a decent car, but it will mean a tremendous hardship to working people.'-'
