MAN DRIFTED SIX MILES
Finally Rescued by Manly Surf Club

Those drowned are believed to be Thomas Snail, aged about 30; Edward Dewhurst, aged 35; Albert Johnson, aged 23; Thomas Robinson, aged about 40; Thomas Gray, aged 42 jJ James Lavery, aged 19. The body of One man, believed to be that of Snail, was washed ashore admost naked and dreadfully battered. Searchlights from the military reserve at South Head and from Captain Cook played for hours on the cliff face Iate last night while Inspector Wenham, of the Manly police, who had eollapsed from fatigue during his efforts to rescue the eurvivors, was hauled to the top of the cliffs. | Three of the survivors, Edward Brown, aged 31, Alfred O 'Brien, aged 44, and James Powney, aged 41, are now reeovering in Manly Hospital. Mr Powney was- rescued by five members of the Manly Surf Club, who went | out to him in a surfboat. Mr Powney had drifted neariy six miles from the scene of the wreck. He eollapsed when hauled into the boat.
