WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

Puketitiri Annual Meeting Mrs Skinner presided over quite a good attendance of members of the Puketitiri Women 's Institute on Wednesday. The motto was, ' ' The only way to have a friend is to be one." Ihe balance-sheet for the recent show was adopted and showed a pleasing credit balance. Mrs Skinner thanked all who had helped to make the show a success. It was decided to make a layette foT this year's community work competition. Arrangements were made for the weighing of the potatoes which will be dug this month. The link letter from the Ebford, Exeter, Women 's Institute was read and enclosed photos. The secretary read the annual report, which was adoptdd. The incoming committB»e consists of Mesdames Nicholls (president), Wright, Turner, W. lyddington, Enright, Carswell, Kauter, Jenseniand Feasey. The retiring president, Mrs Skinner, in a well-worded speech thanked members for their ready co-operation throughout the year and said her term of office had been most pleasant She referred to the forthcoming departure of Miss Walters, who had .been an effieient and conscientious secretary during the past year. She conclhded by wishing the new president everv success in the forthcoming year. The entertainment was in the hands of the single girls, who conducted a series of amusing competitions — the "Siamese Anthem," a quoits game won by Mrs Satterthwaite (a visitor), a team race where pennies were passed along the backs of the hands, and ae amusing match-box competition. Mesdames Tanner and Turner dispensed afternoon tea amidst a round of happy conversation. The competitions, judged by Mesdames Turner and Satterthwaite, resulted: Child's croeheted silk bonnor, Mis Kauter 1; best blocm: Mrs Tauner (stock) 1, Mrs Enright (aster)" and Mrs Kauter (delphinium) equal 2, Mrs Shepherd (sweet pea) 3.
