MR AND MISS BRIASCO MET BY MUSICIANS AT FAREWELL PARTY
Members of the Napier Musicians' Society met yesterday morning in Blythe's tearooms to bid farewell tn Mr J. D. Briasco and Miss Itose Briasco, who leave Wellington on the Awatea next Tuesday for Sydney. where they will spend 10 days ere joining the "Orama" for England and a year's tour abroad. The guests of bonour were received by the president of the society, Mr P. W. Tombs, and Mrs Tombs. the vicepresident, Mrs L. J.- Prime, and the secretary, Mr I. L. Prime. Mrs L. J. Prime, on belialf of ihe society, presented -Miss Briasco with a bouquet of pink scabious and carnations arranged with blue delphinium and fern, Mr Briasco receiving a General Gallien rose for his buttonhole. Miss Briasco was smartly attired in a grey-striped tailored costnme, with which was worn a brown felt hat and brown scarf spotted in white. A portion of the tearooms was screened off and a happy time was spent at tea. The tables were decorated with orange and yellow African marigolds. i)uring the functiou Mr P. W. Tombs, president, eulogised the work of tbe Biiasco family in the musical life oi Napier for many years. | saying they were a gr-eat asset to the town. Miss Briasco, who is a councd member of the society, was, he said, a tower of stre^gjth to it, and both the and her father will be missed at the comirig season's meetings. On behalf of the society he extentied wishes for a happy holiday, assured them of . a hearty welcome on their l'eturn and at the same time took the opportumty to present Miss Bmasco with a leather travelling bag from the society. Miss Briasco expressed her thanks for the kind gift, and appreciation of x\lr Tomb's remaiks. Mr Br.asco also spoke and in a brief revicw of mnsio said he came to Napier 47 years ago, and his first practice was under Mr H. G- Spackman that year in St. John's schoolroom. He revived memories of the old Garrison Band, of which he had also been a member. Musically, he said, he had an abundance of happy memories. He thauked all for the honour shown to his daugbter .and himself, an^ after thcir holiday they looked forward to return to Napier and the Music. ans' Society. All present expressed tlieir pcrsonal wishes on leaving. Apologies were sent in by many unable to attend but who included greetings. There were present: Mr and Mrs P. W. Tombs. Mesdames L. J.
