Rangitane's Voyage. The New Zealand Shipping Co. advises that th© Rangitane sailed from London en route for Wellingtonf cn Thursday afternoon. Mr. Barnaxd at Auckland. The Hon. W. E. Barnard, Speaker of the House of Bepresentatives, gave an address on the policy of the Five Ivlillion Club to an attendance of some 400 in the Auckland Town Hall on Wednesday evening. The Mayor, Mr, Ernest Davis, presided, and at the conclusion of the address an Auckland branch was inaugurated. Oold Swimming. Conditions were not at all favouxable laat evening for swimming and in consequence the weekly club night of the Heretaunga Swimming and LifeSaving Club, at the Maddison Baths, was poorly attended by both competitors and speetators. The attempt on the New Zealand 440 yards New Zealand xecord was made by D. P. Lindsay, but he reeorded only 5.19 4-5 seconds, well outside the record. Uutting-in Danger. "I am afraid the regulation regarding cutting-in is honoured more in the breach than in the observance, especially by motor-lorries," said Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M., in the Wellington Magistrate's Court, when a driver pleaded guilty to cutting-in at Tawa Flat. "I had an experience with a lorry myself the other day," said Mr. Mosley. "I was travelling about 25 miles an hour, but a big lorry passed me and cut m so sharply that I had to brake hard to avoid an accident. It is very necessary that this particular regulation should be obeyed." Mjnister Goes Mushroomlng. The sight of a large patch of mushrooms in a paddock between Lawrence and Boxburgh provided the Minister of Bailways (Mr. D. G. Sullivan) with ag opportunity of forgetting for a moment the arduous Ministerial duties involved in a tour of the Otago xailways. No sooner had the special train carrying the party drawn opposite the field in which these delicacies lay, than it came to an abrupt stop, and the Minister, followed by Mr. A. Campbell, M.P., the general manager of railways (Mr. G. H. Mackley), and several other prominent railway and Labour officials, aallied forth with boxes to spend 10 minutes in the wet grass. When the rich harvest liad been gathered in, the mushrooms were carefully covered with grass, cut by the guard of the train, to keep them fresh, . New Province suggested. With the idea of discussing a proposal to have a new province formed uorth of Auckland, the Dargaville Chamber of Commerce will meet the Whangarei chamber on March 15, in tespon«e to a letter received from the latter body. At a meeting of the Dargaville chamber, the chairman, Mr. C. L. Bagnall, said there was a suggestion for the formation of a new province north of Auckland with the centre at Whangarei, and also an education board there. He knew of work it was intended to have aone to school buildings during the holidays which had not been carried out owing to the uncertainty of the position. Excurskm to Wellington. The indications point to the special week-end excursion train to Wellington being crow;de.d this evening. Up ,to uine o"clock this morning there had been 75 bookings at Hastings and it Is anticipated that five carriages will be required to accommo.date the Hastings quota alone. The train leaves Napier at 11 p.m. and Hastings at 11.24 o'clock, arriving at Wellington at 6.30 o'clock to-morrow morning. The .departure from Wellington for the return trip is scheduled for 6.5 o'clock tomorrow evening, and the train is due to arrive at Hastings at 1.22 a.m. on Monday and 1.43 a.m. at Napier.
