GLEADOW—SMITH
St Peter's Church, Willis street, Wellington was the scene of a very pretty wedding on the afternoon of February 24, when Archdeacon Bullock performed the ceremony of marriage betwcon Lorna Smith, daughter of Mrs P. D. Braid, Kilbirnie, "Wellington, and Stnnley Gleadow, Wellington, second son of Mr and Mrs J. E. Gleadow, Cobden road, Napier. The bride entered the church escorted by her stepfather, Mr F. D. Braid,
and looked picturesque in her smartly cut model gown of magnolia satin duchesse, finished with an extremely long fish-tail train. The close-fitting bodice had a square neckline coming to a point in front, where it was caught with a cluster pearl brooch. From a plaited coronet of pearls finished with orange buds fell the voluminous tullo veil. Shoes were of the same satin as the gown and she carried a bouquet of lilium auratum veiled in fern. The bridesmaids were the MisBes Zoe Gordon, Oriel James and Ina Lees, who were attractively gowned alike in magnolia georgette, tne bodiea and hipyokes being finely pin-tucked. Very smart were their draped sleeves and the skirts were cut with a train. Each wore a picture hat of crinoline straw, a narrow ruching circled the crovvn and was threaded with .narrow deep red velvet ribbon which fell at the back in long streamers. Each wore satin shoes and carried a trailer bouquet of red roses and maidenhair fern, Little Patty Esdaile, neice of the bridegroom, made a dainty little flower* girl. She was frocked in pink and biue.sprigged ninon and wore a wreath of blue and pink flowers on her head. She also carried a basket of deep red roses and fern. As the bride came out of the church, wee Judy Esdaile, neice of the bridegroom, presented the bride wiih a goodluck white horseshoe decorated with orange blossom buds. During the service Schubert's " Avo Mana" was beautifully sung by Miss Zel O'Kane. The duties of best man were entrusted to Mr Lockie Williams, Napier, and those of groomsmen to Messrs Bill ICemble, Wellington, and Alan Greenslade, Nelson,
After the ceremony some 200 guests fiom all parts of the Dominion were entertained in the Palm Lounge of the St. George Hotel. At the reception Mrs P. D. Braid, mother of the bride, with Mr Braid and Mr and Mrs J. E. Gleadow, parents of the bridegroom, received the guests. At the wedding tea which followed, all the customary speeches were made and toasts honoured. Much admired was the handsome three-tier ieed cake on the bride 's table. It was surmounted with a nliniature bride and bridegroom. Mrs P. D. Braid (mother of the bride) was smartly gowned in navy blue silk mariette finely pin-tucked, the neckline finished with hand-workcd faggoting. Her hat, shoes and gloves were navy and she wore a fox fur and carried a bouquet of deep cream and red roses arranged with fern. Mrs Gleadow, inother of the bridegroom, wore an English model frunic-en-yeinble of new browu armure attractively inset with beige satin and having circular cire braidings to tone. Very smart was her brown felt hat finished with a beige ostricli feather. Brown accessories were worn and she carried a bouquet of gJadioli m autumn shades veiled in fine fern and tied with gold ribbon. Mrs E. Esdaile, "Belmont," Lower Hutt, sister of the bridegroom, wore a tailored suit of navy pin-striped cloth with blouse ^ of beige satin and smart navy hat with upturned brim finished with a bright quill. A black fox fur was also worn. On deparling for the honeymoon ln the South Island, Mrs S. Gleadow wore an American model frock of gloucester green armure finished with collar and gauntlet euffs of cire braid in th.e same shade. With it she wore a smart green hat, also the bridegroom 's gift — a squirrel fur cape. Mr and Mrs Gleadow will make their home at 08 Kelburn Parade, Wellington. 13
