JOLLY DANCE FOR TWO DEBUTANTES AT HASTINGS
One of the brightesc and jolliest danees held in Hastings for a long time was grven last evening in the Hastings ■'Assembly HaH by Mr. and Mrs. Eric Beapiisii, Kohatunui, " and Mr; and ;Mrs.-"Ernest Groome, "Te Onepu," for ,the" eoming out of their daughters, the Misses June Beamish and Janet Groome. The hall was very gaily deeorated with large hanging baskets of New Zealand fern and bright red and pink paper poppies and matehing streamers extended out to the walls. The stage was arranged with easy chairs for the non-dancers and was deeorated with huge bowls of pink belladonna lilies and little bowls of pink carnations, nerines and fern. A separate dais was set at the side of the hall, deeorated with ferns and poppies and from here Gordon Red■ward's orchestra played an excellent dance programme. In the supper room a most tempting supper was set out and was enjoyed by everyone. The long tables were arranged with crystal bowls of flowers in shades of pink and maidenhair fern. The guests were received as they arrived by Mr. and Mrs. Ernesf Groome and Miss Janet Groome and Mr. and Mrs. Eric Beamish and Miss June Beamisn. Mrs. Groome wore a trained gown of gold and deep brown broeade patterned with a dull orange poppy design alid having short dTaped sleeves. Her corsage spray was of golden flowers. Miss Janet Groome 's gown was of ivory moire satin patterned with silver. The skirt was trained and the bateau neckline edged with a wide band of the material. She wore silver shoes and a shoulder spray of pink carnations and fern and earried a posy of pink rosebuds and carnations with gypsophila and fern. Mrs. Eric Beamish wore a gown of deep green and bronze «hot self -patterned taffeta ^'ith a coatee of the same material and- a corsage posy of fuchsia and ivy geranium. Miss June Beamish wore ivory chiffon, the very full skirt edged with a double frill matehing those which outlined the neck. She wore a tiny posy of blue delphiniums, pink carnations and purple-edged ivy geraniums at the shoulder of her gown and also in her hair and she caTricd a ball coinposed of the same flowers. Among the guests were: — Mrs Noel Beamish, gown of beige nacre Chiffon, the very full skirt van dyked with gold sequins and edging the grecian scarf. Mrs F. C. Fryer, black cobweb laco with cape sleeves and pink corsage spray. Mrs Nat Beamish, black gown pai terned with scarlet flowers and worn withi an Eastern brocaded shawl in the same shades.
Miss Gill, gown of rich gold satin. having flared cape sleeves. Mrs Norman White, floral chiffon gown in shades of blu© and green, a band of shirring finishing the neck and a carnation spray. Mrs Harold Beamish, clear green souple satin trained gown with a clasp of brilliants at the neck in front and white flowers at the waist. Mrs B. Mason, blue and red shot taffeta with flared vandyked frills on the skirt and over the arms. Mrs J. Hunter, gown of whdte cotelle with circles of mother-of-pearl sequins, shoulder straps of brilliants and red rose corsage spray. Mrs Campbell Macniven, palest blue georgette with brilliant clasps at the neck and belt and pink spray. % Mrs H. M. Oampbell, burgundy cob web lace gown ivith short cape sleeves. Mrs Thornley Sherratt, black cotelle having draped sleeves and a corsage spray of pink flowers. Mrs G. D. McAlley} black cloque with gold flowers at the neck and gold liniiig the wing sleeves. ' Mrs W. G. Wood, gold brocaded satin with a shoulder spray of shaded pink carnations. Mrs W. R. Maxwell, floral silk gown with brilliant clasps finishing the slashed corsage at the back. Mrs A. M. Brodie, beige lace .with a long lace coatee, the fulf sleeves edged with sable fur. Mrs A. D. S. Whyte, medici blue cliiffon, the corsage studded with bril liants, Miss P. M. Holland, black cloque gown worn with a brightly patterned shawl. Mrs W. Harrison, bacchus-red needlerun lace with brilliant clasp on the shoulders. Mrs W. Harding, frock of white silk patterned with a floral design and a scarf of deepest blue silk. Mrs J. L. Masterson, black cotelle with gold lame lining the draped sleeves and gold buttons finishing the corsage. Mrs W. Mackenzie, gown of black triple ninon . patterned in: rose, mauve and green. Mrs W. N. Barron, cafe-au-lait angelskin lace with diamante clasps at each side of tho square neck. Mrs W. C. Ensor, black satin with sleeves of needlerun lace and lace inset m the corsage. Mrs John Shield, blue gown, the neck edged with fine pleating and a ruby red sash. Mrs Oscar Krogh, gown of royal purple charmelaine w°rn with a matehing coatee. Mrs Forbes McHardy, black chiffon trimmed with narrow bands of black oive satin. Mf» J. Lowry, deepest cyclamen trained gown with pale cyclamen flowers at the neck in front. Mrs O. Pattison, black cliarrqplaine patterned with posies of flowers and a cape of the same material.
