MAKOTUKU, This Day. On Sunday last the Anglican Sunday School reopened, and the vicar, the Rev. S. B. R. Corbin, presented the prizes. Mrs Holden's special prize for the highest marks was won by Joy Palmer, and senior prizes were given to Hugh Dally, Willie, Eric, and Itichard Smitk, Joan Luscombe, Eileen Clark, Pearl Dally -and Winnie Smith. The attendance prize went to Marjorie Horn.« Class II.; Gloria Christianson, Grace Luscombe, Jean Garnble, Shirley Berkahn, Doris Ritchie, Sylvia Clark, James, Robert and Gordon Carruthers, Ronnie Clark, Roger Luscombe; highest • marks (Mrs Holden's special), Fred McMullen. Class III.: Dulcie Harding (Mrs Holden's special highest marks), Josephine and Doreen Garnble, Dorothy and Audrey Carruthers, Rose Luscombe, Dorothy Feck, Ray Gibbons, Colin Edgecombe, Jack LuScombe, George Luscombe, Ray Harding, Peter Carruthers, Lyall Feck, Gilbert Feck. Keith Ritchie, Eric Clark. Parents and church-people greatly appreciate the gc»od work done in teaching the children by Miss Schare, superintcndcut. and Miss Wilson and Mr O. Fothorgill, teachers, also the generosity of Mrs Holdtn in tho provision of prizes. The vicar placed in the church two boautil'ul *erviee books given by Mrs Gertrnde (^uainton > of London, in meniory o£ her mother, Mrs Cecilia Friberg, who i'ounded the Makotuku SumJay School and was its first superiuteudent over 50 years ago. On Sunday, February 28, the annutil Harvest Thanksgiving was held in the Metliodist Church, which was prett'.b docorated with gifts of flowers, fruiL' aud produce. Appropriate hymns and special address wrere given. The usual Paddy's market which follows this service was held in the Public tTnll on Tuesday afternoon.
