Boys and Girls Leaving School INCREA3ING NUMBER There is a decline in the attendance at the Hastings High School this yeai compared with last' year, and this is attributed by the principal, Mr W. A. G. Penlington, to the decrease in the number of pupils returning to schoo] and not to the fewer enrolments oi new pupils. The present role at the High School is in the vicinity of 4 50 compared with 484 on March 1 last year. It is expected that the present roll will ' be increased, for daily new pupils are arriving, and it is anticipated that a certain number of old pupils may aLsc return at the conclusion of their temporary employment which is oi a very limited seasonal character. Mr Penlington said that the general improvement of trade and business had resulted in the finding of jobs foi the boys and girls, and in additior the extra month's holiday had been the means of enabling some of the old pupils to work themselves into more or less steady occupations. Altogether there had been over 18C new pupils enrolled and this was about the usual number recorded over recent ycars.
