Highjy Successful Gaihering jlARGE attendance The Takapau Caledonian Society held its 48th. annual sports meeting yesfcerday. Fortunately for the society, although rain fell during the afternoon it did not commence until after 2 p.ui., so that it did not affect the attendance^ which was the largest seen on the ground for some years. / Aa usual, the meeting was pavfi^cularly well run, all of the many veteran officials of the society still filling their accustomed places and carryifig out their duties in that thoroughly satisfactory manner which has made the Takapau sports meetings among the most popular in the province. Enti'ies in all sections, athletic, dancing and horse events, were good, and some very good fmishes were witq^ssed, the t-port on the whole being very good indeed. The Ruahine Pipe Band from Dannevirke was in attendance, and its piping and marching was greatly adourcd The Takapau Plunket Society superintended the catering and provided an excellent spread, Mr A. Ayres, oi -Dannevirke, judged the horse events, Mr Donald Ross, of Kai Iwi, Wanganui, the piping and dancing, and Mr W. Colonol A fr. Wilder acted aa judge of these events. Mr A. D. Lynch, of Napier, officiated as sxarter for the athletic events. The secretary, Mr N. C. Wylie, and assistant-seeretary, Mr N. As a wind up to the sports a most successful dance was held in the evening, the music being supplied by Les Henry's orcliestra. There was a large attendance, and a happy time was spent by all.
