Gruesome Discovery Near Cambridge
(By Telegraph
CAMBRIDGE Last Night. The discovery of a human skeleton buried only 18in. under the soil was made on Carter's Flat by Mr. John Segedin. It wa© removed later in the day by Constable C.- H- Maisey and Mr P. T. Glanville. It was at first thought that the bones were only 15 to 20 years old, but a closer inspection showed that they had probably been in the gorund for a mueh longer period. Mr Segjeden, on whose property the skeleton was found. had been digging a treneh to bury som© rubbish, when he made th© discovery and notified the police. Digging was then continued. From the size of the bones and tlie vvell-worn teeth, it would appear that the remains are those of an elderly person of small stature. The soil was sieved to disclose any articles that might have been on the body, but nothing was found. Tlie site of the discovery is about a quarter of a mile up { the Karapiro stream from its junction with the Waikato river, and close to the edge of a steep bank running down to the water. A few years agp the locality was covered in broom and gorse.
