Bowling Strollers
Sir, — Black shame on "Strolling" for daxing to express his opinions, and nettling our good wives. Since I contracted a weak spine, and iny knees began to knock, my old woman has worn the pants, her exeuse being that it was the coming fashion. Perhaps I should not issue this as a note of warning, but here goes. Mussolini and Hitler have nothing on her since she donned the "strides." Now she talks about becoming a "bowler." Every day I live in fear when I hear her talk about ^improving her "shots" and having a "drive." I quite agree with Mr Dobson when he says that a player will have every nerve strained (mine are already strained) watehing his opponent bowl, and believe me there will be a lot to say, particuiarly 5f vMrs 'Smitih) i.s "breaking them up. "' Not only will the "ditch" contain many bowls, but many players. When my wife asked me my opinion of this noble game I readily replied that I always maintained that our bodies, at the age of 83, wero not fitted for the Grecian postures that are absolutely necessary after delivering the bowl, and to my way of .fchinkirtg the game was purely and simply a lady's game. (You see I was afraid to say anything else.) Now, Mr Dobson, please remember that I never have a minute to spare after finishing the housework, — and to expect me to earry my wife's bowls to and from the green is over the odds. I'm pleased he mentioned that croquet is a highly scientific game, and I really do believe he means it. — Yours, etc., "SUNGOD." Hastings, March 3, 1937.
