Exhibition by Renowned Golf Froiessionals PAR BEATEN BY SEVEN Hawke's Bay golfing enthusiast's were treated to a rare exhibition at the Waiohiki links yesterday afternooa, when the two world-renowned pro- ' fessionals, Kirkwood and Hagen, took part in an exhibition match with two local playera, J. E, Hobbs, of Hastings, and H. E. Troutbeek, of Taradale Kirkwood and Hagen, partnered together, won an 18-hole match by two and one, the outstanding feature of the rc-und being Hagen 's play, which enaoled him te beat par figures bv sev.jn sttokee, Dec.iuse f-ome of the greens on the seeond nine holes were being topdressed. the players went round the lirst nine Iwice. Ai'ter the iirst round Hagen was one stroke below the par of 37 and on Ihe second occasion siy below. Atter putting his drive at the second hole (Smith's) out of bounds, Kirkwood also finished the 18 holes iwo or three strokes below par. The local players performed up to standard, Hobbs starting oft' in a sensntional manner by driving from the first tee through the trees to the' green. to hole uut with Kirkwood for a birdie three Hagen and Troutbeek took foin* each. Because the fate of the match remained in doubt right until the end, the afternoon 's golf proved most exciting for the gallery of about 200 spectators. For an Lout after the match Kirkwood gave an exhibition of liis skill in the execution of trielc shots, usiug all clubs. This, perliaps, was tbe ruost entertaining featnre of the afternoon.
