MANY CRASHES

U.S. Director of Air Commerce Resigns (Received 2, 8,45 a.m.) WASHINGTON, March 1. Mr E. L. • yidal, director of the Bureau of Air Commerce, formerly as-sistant-general manager of Trans-Con-tinental Air Transport, Ltd., and organiser of Ludington Airlines, Ltd., has announced his resignation, to be effective from .to-morrow. He said he Intended to enter the aviation industry, from which he had received many . offere. He declined to disouss the fact that the bureau has been a target for much criticism due to the great number of recent transport crashes. Senator R. S. Copeland, a leading critic of the bureau, expressed regret at the resignation. He said that the divided Tesponsibility the bureau set up nnd not the director, was to blame for the laxity of the adminietration.
