(British Official Wireless.l

Changes Under Consideration in Britain

RUGBY, Feb. 23. A report of a select committee of the House of Commons put forward proposals for certain reforms of law relating to medicine stamp duties. A recommendation is ineluded for the imposition of ld duty on every 6d worth of remedial cosmetics sold in Britain under the medicine stamp duties regulations. The committee adds that, if there is difficult.v in deciding which cosmetics are rej | -dial, the Government should consider taxing all cosmetics at a rate suggested. It is estimated the tax would yield more than £350,000. In the opinion of the committee the existing duties are too heavy on lowerpriced medicines, and it recomniends |d. stamp duty ou a 3d ajticle and ld dut.v on 6d. or part of 6d. Besides app'lying to medicines the duty should be levied on all foods, soaps, tooth pastes and pi'eparations which are advertised as having m»dicinal qualities.
