NGARURORO SCHEME
£13,435 Spent to Date A total of £13,435 has been expended on the Ngaruroro river scheme to date. Reporting to the Hawke's Bay Rivers Board yesterday on the progress of the work carried out during the four weeks, the engineer, Mr G. Rochfort, gave the following details. — Labour: 84 men and 21 teams have been emploved. Earthworks : Two gangs totalling 61 men have been employed; 9643 cubic yards were put on the north levee finishing contract No N.G. 1; 6371 cubic yards have been put on the south levee. The total shifted to date is 55,664 cubic yards, and the cost l/11.8d per cubic yard. Clearing ; Clearing of heavy timber and recutting poplar growth has been done. 16 men have been employed. Fencing: Permanent fencyig on the north side has been started, 20 cbains of three-wire fence and sundry temporary fences have been put up. Bay City : This machine was delivered during the month and has started work draining at Waitangi.
