Farmers' Union Action Causes Protest BRANCHES NOT CONSULTED A protest at the action of the New Zealand Farmers' Union entering into ■ negotiations with representatives of labour employed on sheep-farms to obtain an agreement as to hours and wages without giving the various branches in the union the opportunity of discussing the question and making recommendations to the executive, was voiced by the president of the Hawke 's Bay braneh of the union, Mr. C. R. Edgecombe, when addressing a meeting of the executive of the Hawke's Bay' branch on Saturday. Following on a discussion, the executive passed a resolution on these lines and also deeided to cireularise all theb ranches in the Hawke's Bay district with a view to obtaining their opinions as to the conditions of employment. In mentioning that negotiations wero under way, ,Mr. Edgecombe said that every branch in the union should have been notified. "We are vitally concerned," he commented. ,fThe union should have been given the opportunity of discussing the proposals."
