HASTINGS TRACK WORK
"The Barb.") '
Preparations for Napier 1
(By.
The Hastings tracks saw much . activity over the week-end when most of the locally trained horses claiming . engagements at Napier Park u&xi- 1 Thursday and Saturday were sent out ! against the wateh, Most of the galloping was done on the plough, this track, as well as the course pruper, being in good and fast order. From a time poiut of view the beet gallops were credited to Royal Minstrei, Lavina, Jazz Boy ^ and- Tycoon. , ' • *. . • 1 Paxry (B. Stowe) and Trailor (H. Murray) were aesociated in a once- . round trial.- They weTe together practi- J cally all the way and, thougk the t'ormer was slightly ahead at the iiuish in 1.4li, there was , little to choose between them. • • • Allmetic (J. Prendegast) and Loonthus (Walker) registered 51i for half a mile, finishing abreast but with Allmetic going the better though giving away over two stone, .• ' • • Quake (H. Murray) was not allowed to be at top over. the samo distance in 52. The Mimetic gelding looka fit and well, but i:s sufferiug from a sligiit cold contraeted at Woodville last wcek. '9.0 m The best half-mile on the plough was registered by Royal. Minstrei (Gilmer), 50secs, being just bettered, This three-year-oid loots fighting fit but will be cpposed by some smart hack sprinters at Greenmeadows. * • • Tho Thames was. not set allre when Eidos (Coyle) and Cocklight (J. Briggs) went out to gallop six rurlongs, as it took Ei.dos, three lengths ahead at the finish, 69i to do the last five. ' * '• • King's Rule (L. Cullen), who has improved considerably since racing at Hastings at New Year, after getting left by a couple of lengths was about that distance ahead of Agog (H, Murray) at the end of five furlongs in 64. The former now- looks an outside proposition - for the .Hack Scurrjr' st Napier Park. • * • r • - Felicitatiou (B. Stowe), who is istnporarily in C. J. Stowe 's stable, and ike Tractor— Ecila filly (K. Brueur)., on the course proper, were given a w.orkmg gallop over half • a mile, - • • • Jir Nigel (R. Ma'rsh) was enother that was not sent out against the watch, as after hopping off.at. the eixfurlong post he was eased up over the last three. Owner-trainer J. M. Gameron has the Grand Knight" gelding back to his best form. Iu tho Autumn Handicap at Napier he has gone up from 7,12 to 8.4 for his Woodville win. » » # Tullamore (J. Briggs) and Nclutnbo (H. Murray) took 52 to do the four furlongs which, from a time point of view, was disappointing. The pair were together at .the finish. • • Only One (C. Cameron) and Pladie (W. Moy) were associated in a fiveiuriong gallop with Only Oue doing it very easily in f ront at the finish tn 63i, well clear of his older companion. This was tho best gallpo Ouly One has yet aecompliehed on tho Hastings tracks and shows him to be now coming into his own. ■* * * Top Hat (H. Murray) had little difficulty in defeating Mohua (C, Plier) over half a mile, the last tlnee furlongs in 38. Top Hat, with a strong man on top this Thursday, will have to be takeu into consideration in tho novice event. • • • Passion Flower (C. Plier) and her stable companion Hamarin (H. Murray) were tried out together over threequarters of a mile iu 1.19 with Passiou iTower doing it tiie better, Tho fir«t three furlongs was run in 37}, » • • Shrewd (D.. Colello), olf the scene for some considerable timo, but now being got ready for fcbo Ladies' Bracclet at Waipukurau, .did four easily in 54. #' * • Jazz Boy (H. Murray) got the best of the hop-olf by a couple of lengths over Lavina (H* Young) and .retainsd that advantage until turned for home, when Lavina put in a bid, catering and passing the three-year-oid by the time the winning post was reached in' 63}. Tlie first iuriong was run in 12, two iii 24, three 37 aua the four in 49$. Both pleased, but Lavina went "extra special." « * * Seyfried (B. Stowe) had ftoho (H. Murray) flat out over seven . furlongs run in 1.31. Seyfried at the finish was over a lengtk to the -good, * * •* Bluo Garter (first C. Plier and later C. Stratton) again provided the circus stunt of the morning. Sent out to gallop, she refused to go beyond a hack cauter and When persuasion was tried succeeded in getting rid of tlie apprentice two or three times, Later the more experienced Stratton was giveia the "log up" and, after he had tasted Mother Earth twice, his mount eventually condescended to run half s mile in 50}. * * * The Taleteller juvenile (H. Murray) beat Enzel (B. Stowe) by a length over three furlongs on the course proper in 37, with Enfin (E. Deslandea) beateD off after the firet furlong. * * * On the same track Star Lad. (R. Marsh), Kahlika (H. Murray) and Mary Rose (X. Brueur), all two-year-olds finished iu line after galloping half a mile in 50}. * n * Tareha (H. Murray) indicated a retuni to form by finishing ahead of Lady Wessex (B. Stowe) at the end of once round in 1.41}. * * * Asset (B. Stowe), Grey. Molly (C. Plier) and Helios (K. Brueur) were in that order at the end of four in 51. Asset, who rau off the course when he looked like winning at Wairoa, went very wide in the straight, otherwise she would have been well clear of hor galloping mates. This three-year-old . has paee but bad manners, which, however, may improve under the present careful treatment. * • * Mahaanui (H. Young) and Mon Acs (H. Murray) were well clear of Dniky Crown (K. Brueur). In- a round run in
L.43. The former was a length in froat it the finish. * * *. j Bed Rufus (C. Plier) was restricted to a working gallop, taking 1.32 for six furlongs. * * * Tycoon (H. Murray) did well in ge|i ting to the end of ilvo furlongs in Jlsecs.. but as the trestles were well • ^ n the time can be discounted by about * ^ 1 couple of seeonds. * * * Tupai (Walker) rau hi* three furongs in 37, a very fair effort. * * * DON'T FO.RGET that acceptanees Cor Napier Park close with the secretary, Mr J. E. Gleadow, at eight o 'clock (-Ma atraniTirr
