Building permits issued in the Napier borough for the month of February amount to £7165, made up as follow : New dwellings, £3680; additions to dwellings, £125; additions to nursing bome, £2500; motor sheds, £60; tota] £7165. The total value of the permits issued in, February} 1936, was £39,230, but this included £30,000 for the T. and G- Buildins. 0 Entertainment in Sound Shell. A very bright and pleasing entertainment was given in the Napier SoundBhell, last evening by the pupils of Miss Hazel Lee, ussisted by performers from Signor Truda's studio. The entertainment was given under the auspices of the Napier Rotary Clubr who are endeavouring to raise iunds to provide a talkier outfit on the leper island at Molokai. The programme was of a very varied descriptfon, music and dancing alternating very pleasantly. Sheep Movementf. Sheep leaving Gisborne and coastal properties now total about 50,000 each week in what is one of the busiest periods of the year _in thia respect for flock owners. The freezing works at Kaiti and Tokomaru Bay are absorbing from 30,000 to 35,000 sheep a week, about 10,000 a week ar© going northwards by road and rail, and anotber ; 6000 to 7000 are being shipped to : other districts. Train Crowded. Accommodation on the eouth-bound mail train this morning was in keen demand at the Hastings Railway Station. There was an exceptionally big crowd of people on the platform, recalling the crowds usually seen there just before the Ghristmas and New Year holiday periods. The greater part of the travelling public comprised women and children, and it was obvious that a big number of people had made the most of the extended school holidays and left their return until the last possible day. Great Stock Centre. Morrinsville thie year has upheld it« reputation as one of the most important stock centres in the Dominion, for record pennings of stdre sheep and cattle have been on offer at the weekly saies. Anotber large store entry was forward at yesterday's sal© when 15,000 store sheep, comprising mainly breeding ewes from North Island and East Coast districts, add 800 cattle, including 500' store cattle, were on offer. Temporary Appointment. A temporary appointment as resident master at the New Zealand Friends' School, 8b. John's Hill, Wanganui, has been accepted by Mir Alan C. Browne, F.R.G.S., A.R.C.A., who has arrived at Wanganui from Rotorua. * Mr Browne, a noted lecturer and traveller, intends remaining in Wanganui for about a year, after which he will return to England for the purpose of giving further illustrated Iantern lectures on New Zealand. Huring a stay of five weeks in Rotorua, he was engaged in taking photographs and collecting pub^ licity data under the auspices of the Rotorua Advancement Commfttee.
