NARROW ESCAPE
Man Pinned Beneath Car in Cretk-Bed CRASH THROUGH BRIDGE-RA1LS Mr J. A, Houaeman, oi Porangahau, had a vety narrow. escape last night when his roadster car crashed through the raite of a bridge about three miles on the Porangahau side of Wanstead and fell upside down in a small creek 15 feet below. Mr Houseman was pinned beneath, the car but waB able to blow; the horn occasionaHy to try to ' attract attention. Mr Houseman was fostmd by two employees of the Patangata County Council, Mr A. O 'Leary and Mr J, Jenkins, at about 6.3Q. They were on their way in to Waipukurau when Mr O 'Leary noticed the bfoken rails of the bridge and, rising in his seat, saw the fcur wheels of car which was upside down in the erreek below. When Mr O 'Leary and Mr Jenkins got out of their car th^y heard the horn of the car in the cneek bed below being blown feebly and, hastening down, managed to lever tne car off Mr Houseman and drag hira. oilt. Mr Rouseman was taken to the Waipukurau Hospital last night ond is unde/r»tood to be Suffering from shock, bru/ses and cuts, but has ho boues bnoken and is reported to have had a r/asonably gOod night.
