On Jfaster Monday night, March -29^ the Havelock N. Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club will conduct its eleventb annual dance in th« Town Board Hall. An energetic committee of women is at present hard at work making the necessary arrangements. Gordon Redward'a danee band of four instruments will provide ,th© music, and a free bua ia scheduled to leave Westerman's corner for Havelock North at 8.15 p.m '• * The Napier railwaymen's annual staff picnic which is advertised efc»where in this issue, promises to be • most suCcessful function. An energetic sports committee' has drawn up m first-class programme of novelty events, with excellent trophies. The children too, ar© being specially caterer for. Tbe event is to be held on the lawn of the Hastings racecourso to> morrow (Sunday). Tea, sugar, milk, and hot water will be provided free. On Thursday next, March 4, at the Foresters' Hall, Napier, the Napier Harticulaural Society will stage its initial dahlia and gladiolus show. The executive would be pleased to receive entries from novice growers, and stewards will be at th© hall on the morning of the show to assist all exhibitors in staging their blooms. There will also be sections for asters, zinnias and all miscellaneous flowers, fruit, vegetables and the decorative section. There will not be any home industries Or cooking at thig show. The trophies. to be competed for are. at present. on view in Messrs Blythes' Emerson street windows, together with a very attraotively arranged bowl of dahlias. Exhibitors are reminded that entries closs with the secretary, R. G. Wilson Oqx's Buildings, on Tuesday next, .March 2.
