Napier Tribiite to Member in Charge of Housing MR J. A. LEE'S VISIT That in Mr J. A. Lee, M.P., the Government had a mau of force and action to supervise the housing construction scheme which js now in operation all over New Zealand is the opinion of the Mayor of- Napier, Mr C. O. Morse, who accorded Mr Lee a civio welcome this morning. Mr Morse congratulated Mr Lee upon his appointment as minister jn charge of the State housing scheme and congratulated the Government in having the services of so able a man, *' Although the Napier business area had been re-erected after the 1931 earthquake, there were some areas in town which were in urgent need of a clean-up he said, and he was glad to welco-me Mr Lee to. the town to make his inspection. Mr Lee was assured of the full co-operation of the Borough Council. The Hon. W. E. Barnard, M.P., also welcomed Mr Lee to Napier. "He has a very practical grip on the problem of housing cons«ruction," Mr JSarnard said, ' and I think the country is exceedingly fortunato in having so eapable a person engaged on this work. "To-day we are going to do a very strange thing. Instead of showing Mr Lee Napier' s beauty spots— and there are plenty of them- — we are going to conduct him to some of the less inviting spots, with' a view to having these mad6 more beautiful in the near future." Mr Lee thanked the two speakers for their words of welcome and added that he thoroughly appreciated Mr Morse's promise of co-operation in tbe housingconstruction scheme.
