Mr Savage Rephes to Small Builders CAN THEY BUILD CHEAPLY?

OAMARU, This Day. Jnterviewed regarding the Builders' Federation resolution criticising the Government housings scheme, the Prime Minister, Mr Savage, said: "If the builders can give us a price and do the job the same as the large contractor, they will get the work. So that all builders can be kept going. we are prepared to deal generously; but it must be remembered that we are bandbng publio money. "The scheme," Mr Savage said, "was discussed by the Government with architects, and all possible evidence was taken from all quarters to satisfy us that the scheme was the best. If ihe smaller builders who have not the recessary plant to work on a large scale can satisfy us that they can build as cheaply) then let them quote i-rices aud we shall talk business."
