HASTINGS SCOTS

Society's Monthly Ingleside A very enjoyable evening was spent at the Ingleside of the Hastings and Districts Scots Society, held in. the Oddfellows' Hall, Market street. There was a good . turn-out of members and many visitors. Chieftain E. Y. Simpson, presided, and was supported by Councillors Ramsay and Shaw. An apology was received from Chief and Mrs H. W. C. Baird. J In his opening remarks the chairman welcomed the members and their f riends* . He said they all regretted very much the illness of their chief, Mr Baird, and hoped that before long he would he restored to his usual health and strength. Ihe chairman also thanked those who very kindly collected for the Pipe Band fund. The fact of £17 3/- being collected' on the street on Saturday night last made their efforts worthy of the highest praise. In connection with the same fund, the reel class was running four Monday night dances in March from 8 to 11. The library was not getting the support'it should get, continued the chairman? and he urged upon the members to give it their wholehearted support in the future. The following contributed to the programme:— Pjpe Band, selection; song, Mr A. Bryant; dance, sailor's hornpipe, Mr Duncan McKenzie : ■ song, Miss Jessie Hetfson, of Hawera Scottish Society j recitation, Mr Brian Hasler; song, Miss Merle Shaw; dance, reel, Misses Ramsay, Miller and Farquharson and Mr McKenzie; song, Mr W. Eastwood; dance, Highland Eling, Miss Hazel Millar; song, Mrs McDuff Boyd; piahoforte solo, Miss Clayton ; ' song, Mr McKay ; vocal duet, Miss Shaw and Mr Easfc 7ood ; dance, Irish Jig, Miss D. Rat.tsay, Mr Simpson, on calling for a vote of thanks to the artists, mentioned Low proud they were of two o£ their *nembers, Miss Ramsay and Miss H. Millar on. their recent successes at the' dancrng competitions, Miss Ramsay winning the North Island championship for the Reel- O'Tulloch at Wanganui. - A hearty supper and dance concluded the evening.
