Blu. at Mt. Vernon. The flames from a gorse fire on the riverbed adjoining tho Mt. Vernon property were seen from Racecourse road, Waipukurau, at about 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday. At the height of the fire the flames and aparks wer© rising to between 20 and 30 feet. No damage was done. Kicked By a Horse. When a horee he was driving struck him with its hoofs, Trevor, the young son of Mr Telford, Ruaroa, received gashes necessitating sev'eral stitches j and his removal to hospital. It was fortunate that no bones were broken. The boy was raking hay at the time. The horse, usually a quiet one, for no apparent reason began to kick and became quite unmanageable. New Hospital Member. A speeial meeting of the Waipukurau j Borough Council will be held on Thursday, March 5, to appoint a successor I to Mr B. G. Atkins, who has resigned I from the position of borough representI ative on the Waipawa Hospital Board.
