Washing Machines Installed Without a Permit

WAIROA, Last Night. At the Magistrate's Court, before Mx E. L. Walton, S.M., the Eleetrical Wiremen's Registration Board proceedcd against Aloert Guthrie Tasker for having carried out two eleetrical installations without a permit from the licensing body, and not being a registered wireman. Mr 0. R. Sainsbury appeared for the prosecuting body and. stated that a traveller for a washing maehine had installed two such, and left them in a very dangerous condition, with a lead on to a floor, and if the same were wet a person was quite albile to be killed or at least severely burned or shocked. The defendant had been already warned not to do so without the leave of the Powsr Board. James Black, farmer, at Nuhaka, stated that about November 15 he had a washing maehine installed by a man whom he did not know. He left it conneeted up» No one else touehed itj thq floor was a wooden one, and the j lead was put through the wall. C. J. P. Drewitt, engineer to the j Wairoa Power Board, said that the board was the licensing authority for the district. Witness had seen the installation, and it was not- according to the regulationls. He had not been notified of the installation, and it was not earthed. Any small def ect in the wiring on a wet floor might have fatal effects. When he tackled the defendant about it he said he had installed it, and admitted he was not a registered wireman. The second charge was laid in reI spect to an installation at Mr OrI niond's, Mahia, on similar lines, the I lead being taken through a window, and I through the window being Buddeniy 1 closed'a person might easily be killed.
