POLICE TRANSFERS
Detective Farquharson to Take Charge at Havelock • Transfers of police officials affecting the Hastings and Havelock North police station§ have been announced by the Inspector of Police at Napier, Mt J. Fitzpatrick. The changes follqw upon the retirement upon three months' leave of absence as from Monday of Constable J. Heffernan, of Havelock North, who , has completed his 40 years of- service with the police force. Detective B. Farquharson, Hastings, has been transferred to the uniform branch, and will replace Constable J. Heffernan a* offieer in charge of the police station at Havelock North. His place in the detectivf branch at Hastings will be ftlled by the transfer to Hastings of Detective H, E, Oampin, formerly stationed at Wellington. All changes will take place as from March 1. Mr Farquharson joined the Poljce Force at Auckland in 1910^ and after serving thre© years there he was transferred to Dunedin. He resigned from the force in 1914 but returned in 1920, again as a conetable, but in 1923 he changed over from tbe uniform branch to the detective office at Dunedin. It is just a little over eight years since he was transferred to Hastings as offieer in charge of the detective branch. For health reasons Mr Farqubalson made representations to the department that he should be transferred back to the uniform branch, and this course was agreed to. So he ha© bapn appointed to Havelock North to fill the vacancy caused hy the retirement of Constable Heffernan, who is the constable with the longest service in New Zealand at the present time,
