WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

Art Talk at Hatuma

The president, Miss Allan, presided over a iull attendance of members and visitors at the February meeting of the Hatuma Women 's lnstitute, which was heid in the Hatuma Hall. A motion oJ sympathy was tendered to Mr and Mrs John Hobson and family and to the relatives of the late Mrs Bibby, of Waipawa. The meeting opened with the -Yspiration, after which routine business was dealt with. A letter was received from Mrs J. D. Ormond congratulating the institute on winning the Orm'ond Shield at the Waipukurau A. and P. tShow. The president also congratulated the members on gaining the shield and thanked everyone for the great interest they had taken in their stall, the work sent in being outstanding. A. further interesting lecture in connection with the Golden Thread of International Flashlight was given by Mrs Carey on French, Dutch, and British art. Dr. Eaymond, Waipukurau, gave a very instructive lectnJfc on hydatids. Botli speakers receiveu a very hearty vote of thanks. Final arrangements were nvaae for the flag "5UU" evening, which is to bo held in. the Hatuma Hall on March 5. Nominations were received for the ensuing yewr's committee. Tlie competitions for the day were: Best bloom, Mrs Coombes 1, Mrs Howard 2, Mrs Coombes 3. Shortbread, Mrs Howard. The hostessek for the afternoon were Mesdames H. Martin, P. A. Riddell, Phillipson and Miss Kitty Riddell.
