MIXED SELLING

Varied Sale For Fat Cattle at Stortford MANY LINES PASSED Selling was slowr in the fat-cattle section at to-day's sale at Stortford Lodge ©n all except the top lines, and there were many passings, particularly on cows around ihe £8 mark. Primequality lines sold well, and values on this class of entry were fully firm on late rates, bullocks making to £14 8/and top lieifers to £9 XI/-. On such entries competition was well maintained, but other sorts met with a restrained inquiry. A particularly nice quality entry came (Erom Mr C. E. Tattersall, Pakowhai, jmd met with excellent demand. The buyers' benches were sparsely filled when the fat cattle offering opened ifche sale at 10 o'clock this morning, the reason being the counter-attraction of the wool sale at Napier. Usually there are large numbers of farmers at the stock sale, but to-day there were only aboufc 20 people present principally local butchers, when selling commenced, jdthough the benches gradually filled "with the progress of the sale. Not only the attendance but also the buying was affeeted. In the opening Btages of the sale, pen after pen of fat cattle passed, with vendors' anticipajtions not realised. In this respect the sale was a very disappointing one, the bidding at no timo being aniniated on any lines except quality lines. The quality the entry was mixed, a number of the heifers and cows on offer Jbeing very light and more suited to the store pens. Selected entries and prices paid, from which an idea of the state of the jnarket may be obtained are ast follow : BULLOCK VALUES A single P.A. bullock, not very well framed, but carrying plenty of condijtion, made £10 5 /-.
