TORTURE OF PRISONERS
Denial by Japanese Official (ReceiVed 28, 10,50 a.m.) TOKIO, Feb. 22. Replying to interpellations aecusing the Japanese police of torturing prisoners in order to extract confessions, in which the maltreatment of the British sailors at Koelung on Nor. 2 was emphasised, M. Horinouchi, assistant Foreign Minister, annouiiced that after full enquiry the Government had found no evidence that the British wero ill> treated. He added that the Government wa» attempting an amicable settlement with Briitain.
