FAREWELL TO MEMBERS LEAVING ST. MATTHEW'S GUILD OF FELLOWSHIP

Yesterday afternoon St. Matthew's Guild of Fellowship met in St. Matthew's Hall for the ilrst meeting'of the year, and Mrs. Barton Hobbs, president, presided over a large and very cheerful throng of cnembers and newcomers to the parish. As it is Lent, no 3peeial programmc was arranged, but everyone joined heartily in singing the fine "Old Hundredth" hymn. A very large and beautiful floral arrangement deeorated the stage, and small tables, each with gay flowers on, were placed about the room. On this occasion members were farewelling Mrs. A. B. Harper, who returns soon to England with Mr. aud Miss Harper. Mrs. Cole, who has been a Guild member, was also an honoured guest, as she returns to England soon. Earewells were said and pretty bouquets given to both ladies and many regrets were expressed that they must leave New Zealand. Mrs. Harper said that some day she hoped to return to New Zealand on a visit, and she thanked the members i'or tbeir kind farewell. Canon 0. Mortioier-Jones, in ^ diai speech, spoke of the fine work that the Harper family had carried out in Hastings. Mr. Haxper, at Mahora, had organised the mail-bag Sunday Schooi which now had 1100 members. "* The afternoon was spent m conversation and the introduction of new members, and the atmospliere was tiioroughly sociable and friendly. Mrs. J. Wilson, as tea-convenor, was assisted by me-oibers of the committee in handing round tea. Mrs. H. de Denne, hon. secretary, announced that next Tuesday members were asked by the missionary committee to bring old, well-boiled sheets, to tear up for bandages for medical work dono by missionaries. Members will farewell Canon C. Mortimer-Jones on March 7.
