MONEY-GRABBlNG CRIME £500 Fine Inflicted

WANGANUI, Last Night. In the Supreme Oourt to-day Mr Jusvice Smith fined Paul Nodwell, single, aged 57, found guilty of arson, £500 and ordered that such sum be paid within two days or he would be detahaad xn priso.n for a period not exeeeding two years. His Honour said prisoner was guilty of a cold, calculated, selfish crime. ile hoped to gain a perfectly new house and had endangered the lives of his neigkbours. Apparently a grasp for money had been his aim in life and the Court proposed to malce him feel the effect of his crime through his purse and to show j tlu t arson was not a crime to be treated • [ 'y.
