W.D.F.U. SHOWN HOW TO PAINT JAM JARS
The monthly meeting of the "Women 's division of the Parmers' Union was held in their room, Mrs. Joll presiding over a small attendanee of members. The meeting opened with the creed, after which the usual routine business was attended to. After discussion, it wias decided to hold the flower show on Wednesday, February 24, in their room as previously arranged, and members were requested to have exhibrts in position by 11.30 a.m. to enable judging to be carried out expeditiously. * Mrs. McKinley liindly oitered a speciai prize for the best lancy butter, which siie will judge. Mrs. Joll heartily congratulated Mrs. Harold Thompson, wlio nas been elected to fill a vacan-cy oceurring on the Dominion Advisory Board of the division, which honour MrS. Thompson had riehiy earned for her untiring and eflicient work in connection witn the Busn Nurse Housekeeping Scheme, of. whicn she is seeretary. After a delicipus tea had been served by Mesdames Jones, J. Joll, and Miss M. Joll, Mrs J. JST. Joll gave an interesting demonstration on painting jam jars with Ghinese lacquer painr, the finished jiar in orange coiour uemg mueh admired. Any kmd of jar or bottle could be turned into a lovely rejeptacle for flowers when painted in the manner shown. Mrs. Joll received a hearty vote of thanks for her lesson. The competition for the best flower in the garden was won by Miss Elliott, first, second and third, with some giorious dahlias in deep ruby, salmon and pink shades. The competition for March will be a plate of bran biscuits, and Miss Myrtle Joll will show members how to make a pine-needle basket.
