WELLINGTON, This Day. Seventy days were occupied by a party of pioneering settlers years ago in djfficult and dangerous travel from Nelson to Greymouth. From to-morrow the distance will He covered in as many minutes by the twin-engined .six-passen-ger air-liners of Cook Strait Airways, Ltd., which is extending its present Wellington-BIenheim-Nelson service to Hokitika from Nelson, with a call at Greymouth. On Saturday a survey flight over the route was made by two of the company's machines, Mars and Mercury. Mr G. B. Bolt, chief pilot of the company, flew one, and Mr A. T. Orchard, second pilot, the other. By direct inland route the planes flew non-stop from Nelson to Hokitika in an hour and a-half. In the afternoon the return flight was made round the coast, the alternative course f©r the service, to be foilowed when weather is unsuitable over the inland route. From Greymouth to Nelson by this route took an hour and three-quarters.
