f By Teiegrapfa —
PALMERSTON N:, Feb. 20. Jufy decisions in respect of a certain serious type of offence were criticised at tke quarterly meeting oi the Wellington provinciai exCeutive of the New ZCalaiid Farmers' Union. It was stated that the National Couttcil of Women was taking up the matter seriously, and the executive agreed to approach the Dominion executive of the union witk the suggestion tkat it go into the question with the Women 's Division of the Farmers' Union, witk an offer to cooperate. Mr. F. L. Fetzer (Ohakune) said the Women 's Division in his distriet had considered the issue and, ke understood, was taking action. Introdueing the subject, Mr. G. L. Marshall (Marton) said it appeared to him, in face of the refusal of juries to eoliviet, that a large percentage of ihe men of New Zealand believed this tra de " ^ necessary. Its existence waS endangering home life and, apparently, it was impossible to get a jury to say it should not continue. Apart altogether from the beastliness and sin of it, the country could not increase its population. He was surprised that there had not been an outcfy against this intolerable state of affairs. II the country believed that this posihon should be permitted, then tke law sliould be altered accordingly, but Whiffi it was an offence the law should be Carried out. He was reluctant to introauce the subject, but someone had to, as the position was too serious to be ailowed to pass without protest.
