LABOUR IN TASMANIA

Working Majority Assured % " HOBART, Feb. 21. The Tasmanian elections, held on Saturday, strengthened the position of tnc Labour Government. All the Ministers were returned, and Labour gained seats iu Bass, Darwin, Denison, and, possibly, Wilmot. The probable state of the parties is labour 19, Nationalist 11. A message from Ho bar,t last week stated that au extremely close pontest was expected in the "Tasmanian State general election. The Labour Government in the last two and a-half years had depended upon the vote of a Douglas Oredit member, Mr Carruthers, for its majority. It was considered unlikely that Mr Carruthers would be returned, and if a Nationalist should win the seat and the other seats remain unchanged, botb parties would be represented by 15 in « House of 30.
