, AUCKLAND, Last Night. "Most bookmakers are sports and if they are spotts they must accept tho situation with equanimity when they ; aro caught. When they take on this illogal work they should take thmi gruel when caught. They know tho consequences and it is only occasion- • aliy they are caught. Big penalties seem to have little effect ou them." So said Mr. C. R. Orr Walker, S.M., at the Police Court this morning in fining Edward Byers, aged 41, war pensioner, £30 for bookmaking.
