AUCKLAND, Last Night, ; ".There has been a. pretty. big . business going on here and it is looked on as one of the worst gambling dens in Auckland at the present "time," said Detec-tive-Sergeant McHugh, when Sylvestei Pickett, aged 33, labourer, one of three men arrested in .the raid on .the Resetvoir billiard saloon, Great North road, on Saturday afternoon, appeaxed in the Police Court on a charge of assisting in the management of a common gaming house. The Detective-Sergeant ajlded that. numerous complaints had been xeiceived about the premises. Young men mostly on sustenance, were being en«i icouraged to go there and.a k>t o£ drinking was going on. A number of empty ibottles were found during the raid, Stating that he must take notiee of the police report and accused's previous character, the Magistrate said he must ■be fined substantially. A month wonld be allowed to pay a fine of £50 provided he reported twice weekly to the police.
