POLO NOTES

"Chukkah.",)

Players Handled Saturday's Conditions Well SELECTORS' PROBLEM

(Notes by

Inclement weather conditions marred the polo at Hastings from the oulookens' point of view on Saturday afternoon, but although. there wks quite a high wind blowing the players handled the conditions extremely well and good polo was played. The younger players are showing great improvement, and tho form they are showing augurs well for the future of polo in Hawke'ft, Bay. Thery is plenty oi dash in ta'o.r play, and they proviHed manv thrills fnr +i1Q

Tim Macfarlane couUimes to show great piomise and shonld develop into a sound player. Ho has a good varieiy of ehofs,_ handles ni, mount well and is *iot afraid of h'ard play. Too.y Bobson is also a young enthusia3l who should develop into a good player. Dash is not lacking where he is concerned; in fact, a surfeit of this quality is luring him into many mistakes. However, it is a quality easier to lone down than to acquire, and with more experience he will learn to curb his impulse to hustle things along. John Ormond put in a very nice run in oue of the games towards the close of the day's play. When this player 'is °n his game he is undoubtedly oue of tne iinest hits in the club. With so many players striking form and with the standard of play 'reached Dy several members during the trials the selectors are faced with a hard ta-sic in choosing1 the teams, more particularly the A team. Ponies, being of Such vital importance, are sure to weigh heavily in the selectors' considerations. Arrangements are nearly completed f or the tournament, and a large number of entries liave been received — in fact, far more than were anticipated. It only reinains for the weather to be gracious and the public will see polo of international standard.
