Mr Christie Not Letting Matter Drop

WAIPUKURAU, This Day. The monthly meeting of the Waipukurau Borough Council was held last night. Present: Messrs. I. W. N. Macki© (Mayor), R. W. Carpenter, J. C. Brathwaite, H. A Martin, J. C. Windle, E. O. Bromell. The town clerk and engineer, Mr H. B. Smart, was also present. A letter was reoeived from Mr H. M. Christie M.P., advising that he had no intention of permitting the matter of protecting the borough from river flooding to be dropped, and expressing his appreciation of the fact that the council re&lised the necessity of some action being taken in the matter. In reply to a request from the Public Trustee that the council undertake the carrying out of a drainage scheme in connection with the property of Mr John Winlove on Farm road, it was resolved to reply that the council could not undertake the work, but would he pleased to allow their engineers to assist in obtaining the necessary levels. Mr Windle suggested that the council should take steps to improve the Lindsay Bush reserve, and after a short discussion it was resolved to ask the Waipawa County Council to take steps to improve the access road to the reserve, . and to make. application to the Government authority in oharge of reserves to enable the council to take steps to repair the fences, which were in very had order, and to deal with the growth of blackberry, which was becoming very had, indeed.
