SEWAGE PROBLEM
Complaints Made at Waipukurau A RISING RIVER-BED From Our Own Correspondent. WAIPUKURAU, This Day. At lasfcnigkt's meeting of the Waipukurau Borough Council, a letter was received from the health. ofljcer, drawing attention to the fact that complaints had been received regarding the discharge of eewage into the Tukituki river from the* borough septio tank, and also regarding the overfiow of sewage through the drains into the streets of the borough during flood periods. The officer suggested that the position might be remedied by the sealing of the tank against flood water and the buijding of a receiving "chamber from which the effluent could be pumped continuously and discharged into the creek at a point upstream from the present outlet creek, - After considerable discussion the matter was deferred to give the engineer an opportunity to obtain all possible information as to how similar conditions wero dealt with elsewhere. The engjineer said that it would appear.that the- river bed must.be rising as quito a number of residents coud remember the time .when the outlet pipe oould be eeen above the water level, whereas it waa now continuously under water.*
